Virgin Island Fossil Coral Figurines are not painted...

They are shot through with color as they are made. Every figurine made is unique. The technique of the artisan in laying in the colors, the batch of white fossil coral prepared for use, the temperature, the humidity, all affect how the colors will flow. No two will ever be exactly the same. All our pieces are all individually made. The Coral Studio employs no mass production techniques, only skilled craftsmen.

Loggerhead Turtle Facts

Turtles have been around for many millions of years and, until the over harvesting of today, have been a very successful species. Named for their large head and jaws which enable them to crush their normal adult diet of mollusks and shells, a female Loggerhead Turtle may travel up to 2,000 miles to reach her chosen beach, often the one where she herself was born, to lay her clutch of between 100 -126 eggs. The eggs are soft-shelled, white, almost round and up to 2" in size. They remain incubating beneath the sand for about 60 days. The hatchlings are also about 2" in size, (a little bigger than this Virgin Island Fossil Coral miniature). Only about 2 in every 1000 survive to maturity.

Live coral lives underwater, and Fossil Coral can be found there too, but we use Fossil Coral exclusively gathered from on shore. It's absolutely unique because no one else in the world makes figurines this way. And when you own one of these pieces you will be displaying artwork that is ecologically friendly.
