Virgin Island Fossil Coral Figurines are not painted...
They are shot through with color as they are made. Every figurine made is unique. The technique of the artisan in laying in the colors, the batch of white fossil coral prepared for use, the temperature, the humidity, all affect how the colors will flow. No two will ever be exactly the same. All our pieces are all individually made. The Coral Studio employs no mass production techniques, only skilled craftsmen.
Butterfly Fish Facts Facts
The little Butterfly Fish is a wonderful example of the beauty to be found in tropical waters. A reef dweller, these dainty fish gain their name from the flitting movements typical of many members of the family. As a defense mechanism many species have markings at their tail resembling those at the front. This Four-eyes species shows such features very clearly. Like the Angelfish, a slightly larger figurine in The Coral Studio collection, they are usually to be found in pairs as they feed on tube-worms and sponges living in the reef. Most Butterfly Fish mate for life and raise their young together.
Worldwide, the Chaetodontidae family numbers about 100 species.
